Vocal Development

Adult Training  Adult lessons are customized for each individual's singing style and needs, along with a healthy vocal approach and technique to help them accomplish their goals.  Technical emphasis is on developing, stretching and strengthening the whole  instrument.

At What Age Should You Begin Formal Voice Lessons?

Children should be encouraged to sing throughout their childhood, especially as a part of an organized group such as a children's choir.  Generally, formal voice lessons should begin when the child is either well into, or after their adolescent voice change, boys and girls, alike.  This can vary individually, but generally is between 13 and 15 years old.

The Developing Child's Voice   Long-term vocal development is not expected for children with unchanged voices, and therefore measured progress can be limited.  However, vocal coaching for younger children (8-12 years old) can be helpful for learning some basic vocal production and presentation skills for a child who has either an audition, or solo to sing, by focusing efforts on preparing the child to succeed in those particular  events.

Adolescent Training  Following the research and principles set forth in John Cooksey's book, Working with the Adolescent Voice, Jane helps teens work through their changing voices, teaching them a healthy vocal technique, while working through aural and vocal pitch adjustments.
